PAUL SWEENEY
CO - OWNER · HEAD OF INSTRUCTION
Paul didn't stumble into firearms training — he was raised in it. Growing up in a Marine Corps family, the range was never far from his roots. He graduated from MCRD San Diego in 1988 as Company Honor Man, was selected for a special intelligence program, and went on to serve 20 years in Marine Reconnaissance — leading Special Operations Teams on missions across the globe and retiring as a Master Sergeant in 2008.
Retirement didn't mean stepping back. Paul was selected to develop the Expeditionary Combat Shooting Skills Program for the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, then spent years deploying training programs worldwide for federal agencies, law enforcement, and DoD personnel. In 2014, he founded Total Defense Solutions — a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business — on one simple belief:

Paul doesn't teach people to stand and shoot. He teaches them to solve problems — to think critically under pressure, because the ability to think clearly in a crisis is what brings people home. That philosophy is the foundation of everything taught at DTR.
JEANETTE SWEENEY

Jeanette brings the operational discipline and business leadership that turn a great facility into something that lasts. With a Master's in Computer Forensics and 20 years in government contracting, she has spent her career building programs, leading teams, and growing organizations. As Chief Strategy & Growth Officer at Total Defense Solutions, she's the driving force behind the business side of their mission — and at DTR, she brings that same focus to building a community worth being part of.
Her relationship with firearms has grown alongside Paul and the work he does. She understands firsthand why the mission matters — and why making this training accessible to everyone is worth doing right.
Together, Jeanette and Paul share the same conviction: that responsible gun ownership is only the beginning of real preparedness. When they took on Double Tapp Range, they weren't looking to maintain the status quo. They were looking to open the doors — to the community, to new members, to anyone in the Treasure Valley who's ready to take their training seriously.

DTR’S HISTORY

YEARS IN THE MAKING.
Double Tapp Range didn't become one of Idaho's finest private training facilities overnight. Built over years on 160 acres just 16 miles east of Boise — right off I-84 at exit 71 — DTR was developed range by range and structure by structure, always with an eye toward the future.
That work was done by the people who started it all. Mark and Karen built something remarkable here — a facility that attracted 300 dedicated members and earned a reputation as one of the best private ranges in the state. Their vision, their standards, and their commitment to the membership laid the groundwork that makes everything Jeanette and Paul are building possible.
Those 300 members were part of that story from the beginning, and they remain central to it. Their loyalty and their presence on the range shaped what DTR is today. As we open our doors to the broader Treasure Valley community, we're not leaving that history behind — we're building on it.
